first_img Tottenham youngster Nabil Bentaleb 1 Tottenham midfield starlet Nabil Bentaleb has penned a five-year contract extension at White Hart Lane, committing himself to the north London club until 2020.The 20-year-old Algeria international was brought into the first team by former boss Tim Sherwood but enjoyed a breakthrough season under Mauricio Pochettino last term; establishing himself as a first-team regular with 35 appearances in all competitions.French-born Bentaleb joined Spurs as a trialist in September 2011 before graduating from the club’s academy two years later, making his first-team debut at Southampton in December 2013.He made 20 appearances in the 2013-14 season, under the stewardship of his former development squad coach Sherwood, but it was the following term where Bentaleb made his mark at White Hart Lane with a series of all-action displays.Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Roma were reportedly monitoring his situation as the youngster became frustrated with prolonged talks over a new contract, which he was keen to sign.But Tottenham have put any transfer rumours to bed by tying the youngster down to a long-term deal, with a statement on the club’s official website reading: “The club is delighted to announce that Nabil Bentaleb has signed a new five-year contract, which runs until 2020.Bentaleb – who was born in Lille but has played 17 times for Algeria, his parents’ country – started the final eight matches of the season and formed a fine central midfield partnership with fellow academy graduate Ryan Mason.The young midfielder added on Twitter: “I’d like to say thanks to the club, thanks to my family and thanks to the fans for the support.”last_img read more
